Mā Tātou

Mā Tātou is a first-of-its-kind Indigenous-led asset manager established to generate long-term financial returns while strengthening Indigenous communities, restoring te taiao and creating opportunity for future generations. Following the development of the brand identity and central tohu, we were engaged to create a website capable of introducing Mā Tātou's unique investment model to prospective partners, investors and stakeholders.

Rather than functioning as a traditional corporate website, the experience was designed as a digital expression of the organisation's kaupapa. The challenge was to communicate a complex investment proposition while remaining grounded in the values, stories and cultural thinking that underpin Mā Tātou's approach. The result is a focused, highly curated experience that prioritises clarity, meaning and discovery over volume of content.

Central to the website is the Mā Tātou tohu. More than a logo, the tohu embodies the organisation's strategic pillars and was designed to communicate the interconnected relationship between people, culture, environment, knowledge and future generations. Throughout the site, the tohu remains ever-present, acting as both a visual anchor and a storytelling device.

As visitors move through the experience, subtle interactions reveal the symbolism embedded within the carving. Each element of the tohu can be explored to uncover its deeper meaning, allowing the organisation's strategy to be communicated through interaction rather than explanation alone. In doing so, the website transforms a static brand asset into an active expression of purpose.

The result is a restrained and immersive digital experience that bridges Indigenous knowledge systems and contemporary investment. Rather than simply explaining what Mā Tātou does, the website helps visitors understand why it exists, creating a lasting introduction to an organisation seeking to redefine how value, capital and stewardship can work together.
