Salt is an architecture and interiors practice based in Sumner, Christchurch, led by architect Josh Newsome-White. As a newly established studio, Salt required an identity that could quickly build presence while reflecting Josh’s personal approach to architecture. We developed a bold, distinctive brand that moves away from the expected restraint of the category, instead embracing colour, personality, and a sense of ease.

The identity is intentionally simple, allowing the work to take centre stage. At its core sits Klim’s cut of Futura, ‘The Future’, set with openness to create a clear, utilitarian feel. This is paired with a system of colourful compositions drawn from both project imagery and moments from Josh’s life, from time at the beach to time spent outdoors. These references inform a palette of slightly muted tones that feel natural, lived-in, and connected to place.

The brand was initially brought to life through a temporary microsite featuring playful interactions and shifting compositions, before evolving into a full website showcasing Salt’s growing body of work. This approach extended into print through the use of coloured stocks, die-cuts, and embossing, reinforcing the tactile and expressive nature of the identity.

Together, these elements establish a brand that feels personal, confident, and grounded. It positions Salt as a practice that balances thoughtful design with a strong sense of individuality, creating a foundation for growth and recognition within the architectural landscape.
